UPDATE: Exciting news! According to a representative for Susur Lee, the celebrity chef will be present at the restaurant every evening. “Chef Lee is dedicating himself 100 per cent to be in the kitchen nightly to ensure the reopening is smooth and successful,” they recently told us. Bon appétit!
Renowned chef Susur Lee has finally revealed the long-awaited reopening date for his highly anticipated restaurant, Lee. This announcement comes as a relief to the devoted fans who have been eagerly awaiting the return of his famous Singapore slaw.
Lee Restaurant will officially reopen its doors on Tuesday, July 25, initially offering dinner service and soon expanding to include lunch service.
When it was announced last year that Lee’s beloved King West establishment would be replaced by an Earls, loyal patrons were left wondering where they could indulge in the delicious fusion of Asian and French cuisine that Lee had become known for.

Fortunately, a few months ago, it was confirmed that Lee Restaurant’s new location would be 505 Richmond St., situated within Toronto’s historic Waterworks building. As a standalone establishment in this heritage site, the restaurant promises a unique dining experience.
The Waterworks Food Hall is expected to open in the coming months and be home to food stalls, food boutiques as well as stand-alone restaurants with patios. Unlike other food halls in the city, its doors open onto one of downtown’s oldest parks, St. Andrews Playground so in the warmer months, diners can literally have a picnic in the park.
“More than just restaurants and artisan food stalls, it will be a layered dining experience and community gathering place,” reads a statement on Waterworks Food Hall’s Instagram page.
Born in Hong Kong, Lee moved to Toronto in 1978 and is considered to be a pioneer of modern Chinese cuisine. He gained international fame competing on Iron Chef America and on TopChef Masters where he received the highest judging marks in the show’s history. In 2016, Lee teamed up with Drake to open Fring’s, which shuttered two years later.

Lee was recently bestowed with an honorary doctorate degree from York University.
“It’s a testament to the hard work, dedication, and support of countless individuals who have believed in my journey,” he captioned the Instagram post.
