The 2024 Toronto International Film Festival officially kicks off today and that means celebrities will be strutting the red carpet at movie premieres as well as checking out local restaurants. This year’s A-list is expected to include 700+ celebs, including actors, directors, musicians, and other notable figures in the entertainment industry.
Here’s a list of 20 stars you can look out for this year:
Amy Adams
The six-time Academy-nominated actress returns to the festival this year for the World Premiere of the dark comedy Nightbitch (premieres Sept. 7 at the Princess of Wales Theatre). She’s also set to receive the 2024 TIFF Tribute Performer Award at the sixth annual TIFF Tribute Awards for her outstanding body of work in film. The awards will be held on Sept. 8 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, and although this event is invite-only, it’s a perfect area for celeb-watching!
Lupita Nyong’o
The stunning Oscar winner is the voice of Roz in The Wild Robot an animated film about a bot shipwrecked on an island that must adapt to its new surroundings (World premiere September 8, Roy Thomson Hall). The first screening is part of TIFF’s Gala Presentations, so there will likely be a red-carpet event! Nyong’o will also be a presenter at the Tribute Awards (Sept. 8., Fairmont Royal York Hotel).
Adam Driver
Driver portrays a visionary architect whose utopian ambitions clash with the more earth-bound demands of a modern city in the North American premiere of Francis Ford Coppola’s sci-fi drama Megalopolis. Look out for him at the premiere on Sept. 9 at Roy Thomson Hall (as part of TIFF’s Gala Presentations).

Selena Gomez
You’ll likely catch a glimpse of the actress at the premiere of her movie Emilia Pérez on Sept. 9 at the Princess of Wales Theatre. She’ll also be one of the presenters at the annual TIFF Tribute Awards at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel on Sept. 8.
Angelina Jolie
Jolie directed Without Blood, a parable-like flick about family, war, and revenge. It will premiere at the TIFF Lightbox on Sept. 8. Jolie will also be honoured with the TIFF Tribute Award in Impact Media at the Tribute Awards (Sept. 8., Fairmont Royal York Hotel).
Cate Blanchett
The two-time Academy Award-winning actress returns to the city as the recipient of the TIFF Share Her Journey Groundbreaker Award at the 2024 Tribute Awards (Sept. 8., Fairmont Royal York Hotel). She’ll also participate in the In Conversation With… event (Sept. 8, Royal Alexandra Theatre, 12 pm) — the In Conversation With… series allows fans to see and hear from their fav actors/directors in a more intimate setting (so grab your tickets!)
Ben Stiller
The comedian can be seen on the red carpet for the world premiere of Nutcrackers (Sept. 5, the Princess of Wales Theatre, as part of TIFF’s Gala Presentations) as well as at the Tribute Awards (Sept. 8., Fairmont Royal York Hotel).
Zoe Saldaña
The Avatar actress is getting rave reviews for her portrayal as a lawyer who receives an unexpected request from a cartel leader in the highly anticipated Emilia Pérez (the flick’s red-carpet premiere is on Sept. 9, Princess of Wales Theatre). For a more intimate experience with Saldaña, purchase tickets to her In Conversation With… event (Sept. 9, TIFF Lightbox, 12 pm).

Will Ferrell
The comedian will be in town for the international premiere of his documentary Will & Harper, which follows Ferrell and his good friend Harper Steele as they traverse the US by car following Steele’s announcement of her transition (Sept. 5, TIFF Lightbox, as part of TIFF’s Gala Presentations). He’ll also attend the Tribute Awards (Sept. 8., Fairmont Royal York Hotel).
Denzel Washington
The legendary actor produced The Piano Lesson, an adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning August Wilson play; it will make its international premiere on Sept. 10 at the Princess of Wales Theatre. The film was directed by Denzel’s son Malcolm Washington and stars his other son John David Washington (all three will attend the Tribute Awards (Sept. 8., Fairmont Royal York Hotel).
Bruce Springsteen
The “Boss” will attend the world premiere of Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band (Sept. 9, Scotiabank Theatre Toronto, as part of TIFF’s Gala Presentations), so you can likely catch a glimpse of him in the area.
Sandra Oh
The legendary Grey’s Anatomy actress is the Honorary Chair of the Tribute Awards and will also be one of the presenters this year (Sept. 8., Fairmont Royal York Hotel).
Elton John
The iconic singer is in town for the World Premiere of Elton John: Never Too Late (Sept. 6, Roy Thomson Hall (as part of TIFF’s Gala Presentations), which will provide a more intimate portrait of the musical trailblazer. He’ll also make an appearance at the Tribute Awards (Sept. 8., Fairmont Royal York Hotel).
Nicole Kidman
The captivating actress will be in town to promote the North American premiere of Babygirl (Sept. 10, Princess of Wales Theatre), an erotic thriller about a high-powered executive (Kidman) who starts a sexual relationship with her intern (Harris Dickinson). Kidman will also attend the Tribute Awards (Sept. 8., Fairmont Royal York Hotel).

Jennifer Lopez
Jen will make her red-carpet appearance for the world premiere of Unstoppable (Sept 6, Roy Thomson Hall, as part of TIFF’s Gala Presentations), a heartfelt sports drama about a college wrestler who dreams of going pro (the film also stars Don Cheadle). Both Lopez and Cheadle will attend the Tribute Awards (Sept. 8., Fairmont Royal York Hotel).
Salma Hayek Pinault
Hayek is in town to promote the world premiere of the Angelina Jolie-directed flick Without Blood (Sept. 8, TIFF Lightbox). She’ll also be a presenter at the Tribute Awards (Sept. 8., Fairmont Royal York Hotel).
Bill Murray
The comedian-actor is in town to promote the world premiere of Riff Raff (Sept. 6, TIFF Lightbox), a black comedy about family, loyalty, and murder! It also stars Gabrielle Union, Ed Harris, and Jennifer Coolidge — all will attend the Tribute Awards (Sept. 8., Fairmont Royal York Hotel).
Pharrell Williams
The singer/producer will be in town for the international premiere of the animated feature Piece by Piece (Sept. 7, Scotiabank Theatre Toronto), which follows the life of Pharrell Williams, ingeniously told through LEGO pieces. The film also features the voices of Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar, and Jay-Z. Williams will also attend the Tribute Awards (Sept. 8., Fairmont Royal York Hotel).
Rebel Wilson
Catch the Australian actor-director strut the red carpet at the world premiere of The Deb (Sept. 9, TIFF Lightbox, as part of TIFF’s Gala Presentations). The Australian musical is about two teenage cousins who initially clash but eventually join forces to make their mark on their town’s annual debutante ball. Of course, Wilson will also attend the Tribute Awards (Sept. 8., Fairmont Royal York Hotel).
Steven Soderbergh
The Oscar-winning director is in town for the international premiere of his horror flick Presence (Sept. 5, Scotiabank Theatre). Hardcore fans can catch him at the TIFF Lightbox on Sept. 12, 5 pm, for his In Conversation With… event.
