With all the recent buzz surrounding the Oscar-nominated film rendition of Les Misérables, it’s almost hard to remember the original musical upon which the movie was based, especially for Torontonians: the Tony award-winning musical hasn’t been performed here for seven years. Well, die-hard Les Miz fans, David Mirvish confirmed with Breakfast Television this morning that a “new version” of the musical will be returning to Toronto.
Among the already-cast roles, the Toronto Star reports that Richmond Hill’s Ramim Karimloo is expected star as Jean Valjean, a role he previously played in London, England. Tackling the role of forlorned Eponine is Melissa O’Neil, a regular star of Ross Petty’s pantomimes and Canadian Idol’s season three champ. Producer Cameron Mackintosh, the man behind the show’s 25th anniversary tour, will once again take the reins of the beloved musical.
Though Mirvish didn’t provide a specific date for the show’s return, the Star says the musical will open the 2013-2014 Mirvish subscription season in September.
The weeping continues.
