Shop Talk: Tiger of Sweden opens on Ossington

Tiger of Sweden is the latest addition to the ever-swankier Ossington strip, joining the likes of Gravitypope and Jonathan + Olivia on the once vintage-heavy row. The label got its start back in the motherland in 1903 as the sole source of bespoke tailors around. In those days, the folks behind the name would roll carts down Stockholm’s streets, attracting curious customers with their visible approach.

While Tiger’s current approach isn’t quite the same — for obvious reasons — it is still recognized for its well-tailored suits. Ontario’s flagship location is housed in a lofty space just north of Queen, offering a relaxed shopping experience for both the men and the girls.

For spring, men’s suits are cut slim, with three styles available: Evert, Nedvin and Norden. Nedvin, a slightly more relaxed cut falling between the other two styles, is the most popular fit. Made using high-quality Italian fabrics (think wool mohair and linen), the suits are staples for both weddings and the office. Top picks included a vibrantly coloured plaid button-down ($199) and dusty blue sports jacket with a subdued check ($849.)

In the women’s department, we fell for the brights: a slouchy, sleeveless polka-dot silk T ($199), a fuchsia blazer ($499) and a silk shirtdress with a painterly print ($279).

Jeans are soon to join the suits on the racks, and a stellar selection of footwear is available too. New pieces will be arriving in-store every three weeks. We’re told that each piece is only available in limited quantities, so if you see something you like, remember, it won’t last forever.
