Tony Aspler’s Weekly Wine Pick: a red that tastes like an extravagant French wine, but isn’t

Recently I tasted this wine from just south of Spain’s region and it amazed me because I thought I was sampling a Châteauneuf-du-Pape at under $20. It has the dense, dark purple-black colour of the southern Rhône; a spicy, herbal, blackberry nose; and it is full and savoury on the palate.

Food match: rich meat dishes
