Is Dundas West the new Queen West? Comrags announces new stomping grounds

Remember when Queen West was known for being the best shopping strip in the city? From local designers to cool indie shops, the street’s sprawl grew fast. But lately we’ve noticed more papered-up windows and closing sales than ever, leading us to recently report on what everyone’s been thinking: “What’s up with Queen West?”

With the best of our local artisans being pushed out by sky-high rent and mega-chains, the downtown shopping district is losing its cool, and fast. Nothing could signify that more than Toronto design veterans (and West Queen West retailers) Comrags, who have just announced their move up to Dundas West. The new location will open on May 1.

Although they’ve loved their time on Queen, one half of the design duo, Judy Cornish, had this to say of Comrags’ new stomping grounds: “Dundas is an eclectic mix of young, design-oriented businesses nestled alongside established, family-run storefronts and great restaurants.”

What the move means, basically, is that Dundas West is quickly becoming the new Queen West. Luckily, we’re already big fans of the area.

Comrags (654 Queen St. W.) will close on April 25 and re-open at 812 Dundas St. W. on May 1.
