Controversial church application goes to OMB

After council denied its application for a zoning bylaw amendment to build a cantilevered church on Steeles Avenue, the Fung Loy Kok Institute will take their case to the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB).

“It’s really a compatibility issue,” said Coun. Valerie Burke.

At council, the decision was unanimous, as there were no objections, Burke said. Site plans had proposed a raised, two-storey building to accomodate parking.

“My client was very dissappointed council did not adopt the recommendations of their own staff,” said Adam Brown, counsel for the church. He also confirmed they have filed an appeal to the OMB.
