A recent application to build a seven-storey, mixed-use building on Avenue Road between Brookdale Avenue and Fairlawn Avenue has brought into question the future of the current shops and restaurants on that stretch of the upscale strip.
One notable address included in the plans is that of Bistro on Avenue, a popular chicken wing restaurant. The development plans propose to demolish all existing buildings, which would be replaced by a mixed-use building with commercial uses on the ground floor and residential uses from the second floor up. This would include 233 parking spaces with access from Brookdale Avenue and Fairlawn Avenue.
According to Coun. Karen Stintz, the property owners along that strip are still in talks with the developer. As for the application, she said it fits within the guidelines of the Avenue Road Avenue Study.
A preliminary report from city staff is expected to go to North York Community Council on March 20.
