8,000 human-sized dominoes will weave their way through Toronto this month

On Sept. 22, the city will be transformed into a giant, living domino course, with 8,000 human-sized dominoes toppling their way through 2.5 km of downtown streets, parks, and buildings. This one-of-a-kind event, created by the globally acclaimed Station House Opera, invites Torontonians to come together in a day of fun, community, and artistic flair. And it’s free!

Dominoes isnโ€™t just about toppling blocks; itโ€™s about connecting neighbourhoods, making friends, and celebrating the city’s vibrant public spaces. More than 250 volunteers will help bring this colossal artwork to life as the line dances through some of Torontoโ€™s most iconic and hidden gems. As the dominoes fall, so do barriers, with neighbours and strangers alike coming together to cheer on the eventโ€™s 2.5 km journey.

The day, organised around The Bentway, an urban park under the Gardiner Expressway, kicks off at 1 p.m., giving people the chance to explore the route, meet the team behind the magic, and chat with fellow domino fans. By 4:30 pm, itโ€™s go time! Watch in awe as the dominoes tumble their way through the city, pausing for sculptural performances and weaving in and out of unexpected spaces.

The pieces will begin to topple at the corner of Niagara and Wellington, and end somewhere around Ireland Park on Toronto’s waterfront. The exact schedule and route will be announced soon.ย

This will be the first time Dominoes has hit North American streets, after similar experiences in Europe, Australia, and South Africa.
