After quietly closing their doors back in October 2022, Patria, the trendy Spanish-inspired eatery on King West, is gearing up for a highly anticipated reopening.
In an Instagram teaser last December, Patria hinted at their upcoming reopening, with the caption “Good things coming in 2023.”
“To our dear and valued guests, we are excited to announce we will be reopening in the spring,” the post read. “On behalf of the whole Patria family, we are greatly looking forward to welcoming you back.”
With spring passing and no reopening or delay updates in sight, fans were left in suspense, eagerly wondering about the status of the restaurant.
Just four weeks ago, a ray of hope emerged on the horizon. “The Return is Coming,” Patria declared in an early October post. Since then, weekly sneak peeks of the impending reopening have graced their Instagram, featuring flamenco dancers, carafes of wine and delectable seafood.
First opening in 2012 by restaurant heavyweights, Hanif Harji and Charles Khabouth (of Byblos, Figo) the focus at Patria had always been on the finer details. Named “Patria,” which translates to “fatherland,” the restaurant encapsulated a commitment to highlighting the authenticity of traditional Spanish cuisine.

In addition to a delicious menu featuring tapas, seafood, salads and paella, Patria gained renown for hosting exclusive celebrity dinner parties during the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), adding a touch of prestige to its reputation. The restaurant also offered a weekly showcase of live flamenco guitar, song and dance.
No word yet on when the restaurant will officially be reopening. Keep an eye on Patria’s Instagram feed for the latest updates.
