Friday Restaurant Recap: Buster’s Sea Cove, Chili Cult, Namaste Nepal, Grand Electric, Rowe Farms

Friday Restaurant Recap rounds up the week’s Toronto restaurant news. In this edition: seafood sandwiches make their way to the Path, a new bakery for King West, a new restaurant for chili lovers and more.

Opening soon

  • Buster’s Sea Cove announced today that it’s opening up a new spot in the Path. The exact location is still being ironed out, but we’re told that the goal is for a March 2013 opening. [Buster’s Sea Cove]
  • Andrea Mastrandrea, the man behind Alimento Fine Foods, is opening up a new Italian-style bakery known as Forno Cultura underneath Wvrst on King West. The shop will offer up fresh biscotti, amaretti, cannoli as well as seasonal goods. [The Grid

Newly opened

  • How popular is chili? Popular enough to earn a cult following, apparently. Chili Cult recently opened a few weeks ago on Eglinton West, billing itself as the first restaurant in Canada to focus on chili (as an added bonus, the chili is gluten-free). [Chili Cult]
  • Tired of the non-wholesome food court options in the Financial District? Kupfert and Kim has just opened in the Path, providing Bay Streeters with a menu of vegan and gluten-free dishes. [Toronto Life]
  • Not to be confused with the retail shop of the same name, Haven occupies a small corner of the espresso world in Bloordale. It’s also jam packed with treats from local bakeries such as Sweets from the Earth and Cookie Martinez. [BlogTO]

Closing

  • Aravind’s Keralan cuisine caused quite a stir in Greektown when it opened in 2010, but all signs (literally) point to a new concept opening up in its place. Namaste Nepal, an Indian and Nepalese restaurant, is currently preparing to open up in Aravind’s spot. [Read our post here

Change-ups

  • No longer will travellers be subject to candy bars and pre-wrapped sandwiches. New restaurants have begun to open at Pearson airport, and the roster will include Boccone Trattoria, a fine dining experience from celebrity chef Massimo Capra; Acer, a Japanese restaurant from Guy Rubino; Feta Panini Bar from Mark McEwan; and Corso, bringing in pasta and pizza from chef Rocco Agostino. [Toronto Star]
  • We’ve caught word that Rowe Farms in Leslieville is packing up and moving to a bigger facility across the street at 894 Queen East. The new shop will provide the same services as the old one, plus prepared foods, sandwiches, an expanded cheese selection and more.
  • If you’ve been hoping the lines would eventually die down at Grand Electric, don’t hold your breath. The Parkdale moratorium has regrettably affected the restaurant’s planned second-floor expansion, which is currently suspended. [Read our post here]
  • Those who’ve been scratching their heads at the disappearance of Bazaar Global Food Bar on Mount Pleasant should fear not. Owner Hemant Bhagwani has relocated his cultural mash-up restaurant to 33 Baldwin Street. [The Grid]
