The Final Beach Blast
Looking for one last grasp effort to hold onto some shred of summer? Well, you can take comfort in knowing that the days of live music on the beach are not over – not yet, anyway. Echo Beach will host its final two concerts of the summer in the coming days, first welcoming prairie rock quarter, The Sheepdogs, to the outdoor venue on Saturday and then capping off 2012 with teen sensation Ed Sheeran on Monday.
This Bud’s For You
From stars to suds, red carpets to Red Stripes, silver screens to Silver Bullets. This weekend will see the glitz and glam of TIFF scroll its end credits, but will see the start of another city-wide event for Torontonians to “drink down." Toronto Beer Week sees pubs and breweries all across the city get into the action with special events, contests, tours, menus and tastings as part of the festival. The week gets underway on Thursday with the Premium Beer Experience at The Berkeley.
Doing Terry Proud
It’s been 32 years since Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope cross-country run, but the memory and legacy of the Canadian hero can still be felt in the annual Terry Fox Run. This year, Toronto will host the run at 11 public sites with no entry fee or minimum donation needed to participate, not to mentions countless other runs being held at schools all across the city. Through the annual run, the Terry Fox Foundation has raised $600 million for cancer research.
Get Your Polka On
Roncesvalles Polish Festival, you had me at “Opening Polka Party”. The polka party kicks off a packed weekend full of Polish-centric community activities, including live music, free film screenings, dancing under the stars and all the pierogies, kielbasa and cabbage rolls you can eat. The all-ages festival, now in its seventh year, welcomed nearly 300,000 people to the Village last year.
Corny Goodness
Join other Torontonians as they say good bye to summer and hello to fall. This Saturday, St. Clair Gardens Parkette hosts Corn Fest, an annual event complete with corn roasting, free BBQ and a silent auction. From 12-7 P.M. enjoy some free corn and entertainment, featuring the Ontario Ballet, FullaSound Band and more.
