Weekend Warrior: The Great Upheaval, Lowe’s Toronto Christmas Market, One of a Kind Christmas Show

The Great Upheaval: Masterpieces from the Guggenheim Collection

When: Nov. 30-Mar.2
Where: Art Gallery of Ontario
Details: Featuring European artwork from the tumultuous years leading up to and during the First World War, the AGO’s newest exhibition (which launches Saturday), showcases paintings from New York’s Guggenheim Museum. The collection, which includes works by artists such as Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Henri Matisse and Vasily Kandinsky (just to name a few), chronologically traces the famed artwork created between the years 1910 and 1918, spotlighting the dynamism of this revolutionary time period. Lowe's Toronto Christmas Market

When: Nov. 29-Dec.15
Where: The Distillery Historic District
Details: Experience the magic of a traditional Christmas in the beautiful and historic Distillery District. Featuring live musical performances (and sing-alongs for the kids), vendors, and food and drink aplenty, this is one event sure to get anyone in the Christmas spirit.


Steam Whistle Unsigned

When: Nov. 29
Where: Steam Whistle Brewery
Details: Teaming up with Now Magazine, Gibson Guitars and Pandor Productions, Steam Whistle presents the next instalment of its ongoing indie music concert series. The series, which showcases 3 independent Canadian artists in each show, promotes Canada’s up and coming musical talent, and supports artistic development in Canada by donating to Artists Health Alliance. Friday’s instalment will feature Rituals, The Ooohh Baby Gimmie’s and Fresh Snow. Tickets are $5 at the door.


Cavalcade of Lights 

When: Nov. 30
Where: Nathan Phillips Square
Details: The 47th annual Cavalcade of Lights goes down this Saturday evening, celebrating the beginning of the holiday season. Entertainment at this free event will include musical performances by Tyler Shaw, Cold Specks, Divine Brown and Grammy Award-winner Carvin Winans, as well as the illumination of Toronto’s official Christmas tree, and a firework display. 


One of a Kind Christmas Show & Sale

When: Nov. 28-8
Where: Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place
Details: Since its premiere in 1975, the One of a Kind Christmas Show & Sale has become a Canadian holiday tradition for those in search of unique, handcrafted items. The largest consumer craft show in North America begins this weekend at Exhibition Place, featuring handmade designs by over 800 craftspeople, hands-on workshops, and artisan food offerings. Tickets can be bought online or at the door.


Mondo Bazaar

When: Nov. 30- Dec. 1
Where: Gladstone Hotel
Details: The holiday season brings with it long gift shopping lists, so if you’re hoping to cross off some names, head over to the Gladstone Hotel this weekend for Mondo Bazaar’s holiday marketplace. Expect distinctive handmade accessories, jewellery, paper goods, clothing and body care from local vendors that are sure to please kids and adults alike.
