NYC brand worn by the likes of Meghan Markle comes to Yorkville

American ready-to-wear brand Veronica Beard has opened its first-ever Canadianย retail store in Toronto, bringing the brandโ€™s vibrant style to Yorkville.

Since founding their eponymous brand in 2010, co-designers and sisters-in-law, Veronica Miele Beard and Veronica Swanson Beard have evolved the label into a go-to for modern wardrobe staples that has been touted by stars such as Gwyneth Paltrow.ย Meghan Markleย has also been a longtime fan of the brand, making headlines in 2019 for re-wearing a dress from Veronica Beard during a royal tour. She also recently wore leather trousers from the brand in March on a date night with Prince Harry. All Veronica Beard collections are created in New York by the two Veronicas.

โ€œToronto happens to be one of our favourite cities, with an energy unlike any other. We wanted VB Toronto to capture the distinct spirit of Veronica Beard as well the spirit of Toronto โ€” warm, lived-in and inviting,โ€ says Veronica Miele Beard.

Miele Beard says that, although Toronto is the primary focus, expansion throughout other major Canadian cities isnโ€™t out of the question. Designed in partnership with interior designer Carolina de Neufville, the storeโ€™s decor includes bold leopard prints on the ottomans and drapery as well as the trapezium shell-shaped chairs.

As far as clothing goes, the Yorkville location will offer the brandโ€™s full ready-to-wear collection and iconic staples. The brand is most well known for their dickey jacket, which offers a womenswear alternative to the dickey โ€” a sleeveless, armless shirt that originated in the 1880s for men to layer under suits and tuxedos. The brand’s version of the dickey offers turtleneck, hoodie and even leather moto-style dickeys that zip into the sides of their staple dickey jacket, allowing for some stylish layering without all the bulk.ย

โ€œWe believe in meeting our woman where she is โ€ฆ with a full wardrobe that addresses her multifaceted life,โ€ says the duo. โ€œThe VB collection is designed โ€˜for women who make it happen.โ€™ The Yorkville neighbourhood has always been a vibrant hub for women to shop, eat and feel the energy and pulse of the city, so it’s a natural fit.โ€

Veronica Beard is located at 111 Yorkville Ave., Suite 101 and is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m to 6 p.m and on Sundays from 12 to 5 p.m.
