Dying Hard

Newfoundlander Mikaela Dyke is a jill-of-all-trades: a playwright, actor, improviser and stand-up comedian. But she tones down the funny with her verbatim show about the true story of a mine that destroys the health of a small Newfoundland community.

Cats

If only for nostaliga’s sake, we think it’s worth the drive to Mississauga tonight or tomorrow to catch the special two-night engagement of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ’80s musical about a group of alley cats called the Jellicles. Come on, have you ever seen cats do this?

Living Arts Centre, 4141 Livinig Arts Centre Drive, Mississauga. 905-306-6000. March 13 & 14.

The Second City Goes Boom!

Looking for something to do with the kids over March Break? Then head over to The Second City for a hilarious non-stop hour of comedy. Warning: kids are encouraged to scream, disrupt and basically act like kids.
The Second City, 51 Mercer Street, 416-343-0011. March 12-18.

Maggie & Pierre

Due to the suspension of Dancing With Rage because its star, Mary Walsh, has fallen ill, Theatre Passe Muraille is resurrecting its 1980 hit play about one of Canada’s most endearing political figures, former prime minister Pierre Trudeau, and his fascinating and dramatic marriage to Margaret Trudeau.
Theatre Passe Muraille, 16 Ryerson Ave., 416-504-7529. March 16, 7:30 p.m.

New Ideas Festival

The annual three-week juried festival returns with works by emerging local playwrights, including lovers' fantasies and regrets, secrets revealed, butterflies, puppets, trips to Newfoundland and to Bali, and an unusual night at the laundromat.
