Wanted: this necklace from a socially conscious local jewellery line

Korea’s been making a bit of a splash in Canada these days. You can see its influence in food (kimchi tacos, anyone?), in music (who could forget “Gangnam Style?”) and yes, in fashion.

Shop for Jayu is a jewellery line designed by Korean-Torontonian Sally Han and handmade by Korean artisans. According to its website, the company’s long-term goal is “to create job opportunities for widows and marginalized individuals in Africa, Canada, Korea, and beyond” (jayu means “freedom” in Korean). With nothing over $60, this socially conscious line is also super affordable without skimping on quality or style.

I stopped by the launch of Shop for Jayu’s new jewellery collection at the Gladstone Hotel this past weekend and was considerably impressed with how impeccably made and on-trend the pieces were. A gold necklace with bold blue spikes was particularly striking. This statement piece features alternating cobalt blue and gold spikes, along with a chain that is interwoven with a fine burgundy braid and adorned with rhinestones.

Shop for Jayu, at the moment, is available only online, but with free shipping anywhere in North America, this beautiful piece of neck-bling can be yours for a mere 59 bones.

$59. Available online at www.shopforjayu.com
