As Toronto Fashion Week heads for the finish line, stylish Torontonians are being given the chance to step up their wardrobe even further. The non-profit Fashion Takes Action is holding its first ever high-end clothing swap.
Swappers should simply bring a gently used (and recently cleaned) high-end item to the meet tomorrow (March 16) at David Pecaut Square — Fashion Week ground zero — and start swapping. It’s the perfect excuse to upgrade that “experimental” piece you grabbed in the last Holt’s Boxing Day sale.
FTA is Canada’s only not-for-profit organization that focuses on the sustainability of well-made clothes rather than fashion’s seasonal in and out dictations. On the scene since 2007, its goal is to work with and support designers that use sustainable materials in an effort to prove that fashion can be green too.
Acceptable swapping items include gently used high-end clothing, shoes, purses, hats, scarves and belts — but no jewellery.
“High-end” is of course a notoriously fickle term but the organizers say it can be anything from Cavalli to Chloé or even a high-end chain (think J. Crew, Banana Republic), just make sure the chain-store item is at the dressier/nighttime end of the fashion spectrum.
Tickets can be purchased in advance for $15 or at the door for $20 (Fashion Week pass holders get in for $10).
