Are pop-up shops still cool in Toronto? Yes, especially when Target is involved

Collaborations between high-end designers and retail chains have become a bit of a trend lately. H&M has produced collections by Lanvin, Sonia Rykiel and Versace, while Target also boasts an impressive list of designers like Rodarte and Missoni, to name a few. Most recently, Jason Wu’s collection for Target was released in the States. Sadly, with no retail stores in the country, Target’s collections have long evaded Canadian fashionistas. That’s about to change sooner than we expected.

Target will be opening a pop-up store in Toronto for one day only, the National Post reports. The store will feature items from Wu’s collection (priced between $10 and $45) and — get ready for it — the designer himself will be in attendance. Fresh off his New York Fashion Week success, the Vancouver native told the Post that he was feeling “rested” and “ready to start again.”

The event is being held to promote the launch of Target’s first Canadian stores, which will open in spring 2013. The company will also match 100 per cent of the sales made from the pop-up with donations to United Way Toronto.

The pop-up will be open on Feb. 23, at 363 King St. W. in Toronto, from noon to 6 p.m. or for as long as supplies last (translation: it won’t be open very long).

There will be a limit of three items per customer, so ladies, start lining up.
