Where to dine al fresco starting today

Great Reads

This week it was finally announced that Ontario will be entering phase one of its re-opening plan, which includes outdoor dining for groups of up to four. And with the stinking-hot weather we’ve been having lately, the announcement couldn’t have come at a better time. Hello, patio season! If you’re as excited as we are to put on some sunglasses and enjoy a burger and a cocktail while basking in the heat, wait no longer. Here are some of the best Toronto restaurant patios opening this weekend.

Set under fairy lights and behind the wooden fence, Marben’s lovely tented patio is opening just in time for its new menu. Featuring an added extension to seat more diners, the streetside patio offers a cozy ambiance to enjoy new menu items like Grilled Fogo Island Squid and the New Farms Greens Salad. On weekends, Marben gives customers the chance to turn any meal into brunch with the “put an egg on it” option.

Hemingway’s

Looking for a sports pub to enjoy the Euros this weekend? Hemingway’s rooftop patio is an iconic space to gather with friends over a pint. This summer, the patio will be serving up its signature New Zealand pub fare to even more fans with a new extension. Seating is available for both walk-ins and reservations and the restaurant has already promised to show every game this weekend. Fingers crossed that in a few weeks, Hemingway’s will be once again hosting those themed trivia nights we’ve missed so much.

Offering some of the most scenic views in the city, the Porch is one of Toronto’s most well-known rooftop patios. Its Entertainment District location makes the Porch a convenient hotspot for after-work beers or mid-afternoon specialty cocktails. Featuring beautiful views of the city, its sky-high rooftop is the perfect place to soak up some rays and get started on your summer tan.

Auberge Du Pommier

If you’re looking for a more upscale al fresco dining experiencing, Auberge Du Pommier has just the terrace. Set behind gorgeous brick walls, this floral patio is elegantly decorated with a stone floor and refreshing fountains. This garden getaway is a bit quieter than most other patios, making for a more intimate and romantic dining experience.

Another Toronto favourite for upscale relaxation is the terrace at Amal Toronto.  Scratch your travel itch without leaving the city while enjoying the restaurant’s modern Lebanese cuisine and soothing music from across the world. Overlooking Bloor Street, this terrace has sleek white décor featuring potted plants and comfy cushions, providing an ambiance like no other.

Against the Grain

Is there really any better way to enjoy your meal than with a view of the lake? Against the Grain is one of Toronto’s favourite patios, known for its waterfront view. Located just steps away from Sugar Beach, this taverna offers a large selection of pub fare to pair with specialty cocktails or a glass of wine—and all with a breathtaking view of Centre Island.

Enjoy some of the city’s best in Mexican food under the stars at Barrio Cerveceria. The fairy lights overhanging this narrow patio create a charming backdrop for late-night dining. Get your margaritas and mimosas topped up as fast as possible at the outdoor bar. Barrio’s patio is first-come first-serve so be sure to get there early, because a hotspot like this is sure to fill up fast this weekend.

Take your choice of high bar stools or gather around a picnic table and enjoy Ontario craft beer paired with a signature TallBoys Burger.

La Boheme

If you’re looking to skip the pub scene in favour of a morning coffee or a smoothie this weekend, La Boheme might be the place for you. Sit back in one of their comfortable wicker chairs and enjoy the view of the trees overhanging the patisserie’s back deck patio while sipping on a nice hot—or cold—coffee and snacking on some tasty treats.
