Toronto is getting a ski hill right at Nathan Phillips Square

There are many new Canadians in Toronto who are new to the wholes snow thing, so what better way for them to embrace the fluffy white stuff than set up a ski hill smack dab in the middle of downtown. And that’s just what is going to happen Feb. 15-16.

The Canadian Ski Council along with the Ontario Snow Resorts Association are setting up a ski hill in Nathan Phillips Square in mid-February.

The event will be absolutely free to downtown dwellers, commuters, families and anyone who wants to try sliding on snow. The event runs Feb. 15 and 16 from 12:00pm to 8:00pm.

“Skiing and snowboarding are an essential part of Canadian culture. By bringing the snow to downtown Toronto, the Ontario Snow Resorts Association is demonstrating its collective commitment to introducing as many people as possible to the joys of being outdoors and sliding on snow during winter,” says Kevin Nichol, president of the Ontario Snow Resorts Association.

Torontonians won’t need to bring anything with them other than a can-do spirit of winter. The organisations are providing skis and snowboards, boots and instruction.

“We feel that once people try sliding on snow they are simply going to learn to love winter all over again,” says Paul Pinchbeck, president and CEO of the Canadian Ski Council. “

Founded in 1977, the Canadian Ski Council represents 239 ski areas across Canada and is a national, not-for-profit ski and snowboard organization whose mandate is to increase participation in recreational skiing, snowboarding, and cross-country skiing in Canada.
