It’s a party in the village

On Aug. 16 and 17, join me for the third annual Five Senses Festival in the downtown core — what I consider to be simply the best summertime grassroots community celebration of arts and culture in the historic village of Richmond Hill.

These two days of live performances, interactive activities, visual art, food and family fun will feature Russian, Persian and Asian cultural experiences.

Featured are Zumba, Dance Crew, Jazz with Patricia Duffy, Spirit Movers, and the amazing Chuck McClelland with Canadiana. All this entertainment will be provided throughout the village.

Onstage at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts on Friday night will be Julian Troiano — whose uncle Domenic played with the famous ’70s Toronto band Lighthouse — and the George St. Kitts Band playing cool jazz.

On Saturday night, you can see red-hot artists Alex Ciccone, Rich and the Poor Boys playing blues, and SoulChild playing R & B and funk.

We will also be featuring the Ontario Science Centre with their interactive displays, and if you want to get back to your British roots, feel free to join us for high tea on Saturday in the Plaza Suite from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. And don’t forget that the Richmond Hill Pipes will also be on hand to give us another taste of the British Isles.

Lastly, get your passport to the Five Senses Festival and you could win a 42-inch HD television.
