Five ways to celebrate International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is tomorrow, and there are a number of events around the city to celebrate girl power. Here’s a roundup of our favourites.

Kitchen Sisters: A benefit for sistering

Satisfy your palette for a good cause with a fabulous four-course gourmet meal prepared by an amazing group of local female chefs, including Donna Dooher (Mildred’s Temple Kitchen). The event is hosted by actress Sonja Smits and proceeds go to Sistering, an organization that has been supporting homeless and low-income women in Toronto since 1981.
Mildred's Temple Kitchen, 85 Hanna Ave. March 8, 7 p.m. Tickets start at $500, call 416-926-9762 ext. 243.

Exposed: The Female Perspectives & Voices (March Art show)

The city’s much loved brewery hosts two art exhibitions exploring women’s issues in its Steam Whistle Gallery. The “Exposed” exhibition is for those who like their art contemporary, while “Voices” is a multi-disciplinary collection.
Steam Whistle Brewing, The Roundhouse, 255 Bremner Blvd., 416-362-2337. Runs throughout March.

The F Word

In this play, written by Jennifer Phillips and directed by Loretta Chen, the F word is, yes, that F word, and chronicles the trials, tribulations, joy, pain, and the jubilation that women face.
Buddies in Bad Times Theatre
, 12 Alexander St., 416-975-8555. March 8–11.

Giggles @ The Groove

Christopher Hitchens be damned, women can be funny. And they'll prove it at the Groove’s International Women's Day open-mic night with host Zabrina Chevannes.
The Groove Bar and Grill, 1952 Danforth Ave., 647-350-1917. March 8, 9:30 p.m.

Post a photo without makeup

And here’s something simple we can all do. Local blog Confidence Is Beautiful is going the Dove way and asking women to change their online profile pics to show off their natural beauty. Hey, if Snooki can do it, then so can you.
