As if you didn't already know, TIFF is upon us (less than 24 hours and counting). When we're not holed up in theatres watching movies all day, we definitely want to be out schmoozing and celebrity-gazing because, hey, it only happens once a year (and the Gosinator isn't married yet). Below, our 2012 TIFF Party Primer.
SOHO House Toronto
After three years of popping up in temporary digs during TIFF, the international members-only club is getting a permanent space in Tinseltown North — just in time for the annual influx of A-listers. The 10,000-square-foot space is conveniently located just east of the TIFF Bell Lightbox. Lucky guests can expect plenty of Grey Goose, indoor smoking (gasp!) plus all the schmoozing they can handle on the rooftop lounge.
192 Adelaide St. W., 416-599-7646.
The Oxley Public House
Opening a few months ago across from Hazelton Avenue, the Oxley is primed to take over from old stalwart Hemingways as the go-to watering hole for celebs looking to down a pint in a less pretentious atmosphere.
121 Yorkville Ave., 647-348-1300.
Stock Restaurant Bar & Lounge
For posh noshing, stars need only stroll down the street from the Lightbox to the new Trump International Hotel & Tower where, on the 31st floor, they’ll find Stock Bar & Restaurant. An extensive selection of organic and biodynamic wines and craft beers can be enjoyed on the private dining loft, away from prying paparazzi.
Trump International Hotel & Tower, 325 Bay St., 416-637-5550.
Drake Opening Night Party
With an extended licence (open ’til 4 a.m.) and free tattoos on site (yes, real ones!), this annual affair has certainly upped the ante and will surely prove to be unforgettable.
When: Sept. 6, 9 p.m.
Where: The Drake Hotel, 1150 Queen St. W., 416-531-5042.
APJ Academy Lunch
Always a star-studded event, the annual Artists for Peace and Justice brunch, co-hosted by Oscar-winner Paul Haggis, is a great opportunity to rub elbows with the rich and famous while supporting a worthwhile cause. Tickets are pricey though at $1,250 each.
When: Sept. 8, 3 p.m.
Where: University of Toronto President's Estate, 93 Highland Ave.
Nikki Beach at The Spoke Club
The entertainment purveyors will transform the private club’s rooftop into a St. Tropez–style haven for stars, journalists and, possibly, you.
When: Sept. 6–11, 10 a.m. – 4 a.m.
Where: The Spoke Club, 600 King St. W., 416-368-8448.
Festival Music House
If they can nab one of the limited pairs of public tickets, lucky music lovers will get the chance to catch some up-and-coming Canadian acts (like Yukon Blonde) while rockin’ out with industry insiders.
When: Sept. 10–12
Where: Mod Club, 722 College St., 416-588-4663.
