Founded by Toronto-based Chef Joe Friday in 2013, The Chef Collective is a organization committed to supporting local and worldwide chefs by providing them with a platform to showcase their talents through chef battles.

After a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the event is set to kick-off at hip Ossington restaurant Boehmer co-hosted by Chef Joe Friday and TV personality and chef Devan Rajkumar.

The rules are simple. Using a secret ingredient,  chef competitors must create two signature dishes in only one hour which will then be judged by a panel of industry experts on taste, originality, use of secret ingredient and presentation.

So, just who are the prominent chefs taking part in the action-packed battle? They inlcude Jerome Robinson (a.k.a. The Heartbreak Chef), who serves up some of the city’s best comfort food,  Sam Medeiros, Chef de Cuisine at La Palma, and Imrun Texeira, owner of Wanderlust a personal chef service based in Toronto and a former Top Chef Canada semi-finalist.

Set to judge the dishes are Top Chef Canada season nine winner Erica Karbelnik, Food Network Canada’s Robert Rainford, restaurateur and Iron Chef Canada season six winner Paul Boehmer and certified cheese expert Afrim Pristine.

“We’re thrilled to re-launch The Chef Collective battle series in Toronto this fall, and to continue providing a platform for chefs to showcase their incredible culinary talent,” said Chef Joe Friday. “Our high-octane series is a must-attend event for anyone who appreciates culinary art and enjoys a good battle.”

The battle will take place on Oct. 17 with $15 from every ticket sold being donated to support Habitat for Humanity Canada. Click here to learn more.
