A dish from the Berczy Tavern

Three of the city’s best restauranteurs just opened a piano bar in Toronto

A little bit of music and a whole lot of delicious food just hit Old Toronto with the opening of The Berczy Tavern.

Chef Michael Angeloni, along with partners Adam Teolis and Yannick Bigourdan— the masterminds behind Amano Trattoria and Bar Notte — have brought this joint to life with a vibe that screams historic charm.

“We are thrilled to establish The Berczy Tavern in such a historic and vibrant part of Toronto,” says co-owner Adam Teolis. “Our goal is to create a space that feels both timeless and contemporary, where the community can come together to enjoy great food, live music, and a welcoming atmosphere.”

We don’t know what will prove to be more intriguing: the New American Bistro cuisine or the space itself. Chef Angeloni has a soft spot for this space—he used to frequent it during his culinary school days when it was a Japanese restaurant. Housed in a heritage building with a fresh makeover,  guests will step inside to find a stunning 20-foot marble bar, brass detailing and a grand piano that sets the stage for nightly performances.

“The Berczy is a combination of everything we love — perfect dining room, ambiance and music,” says Teolis. “We aim to create that dinner party feel with music, warm lighting and a lively atmosphere where tables aren’t too spread out.”

Guests can expect live jams from local talent starting at 8 p.m. on weekdays and 9:30 p.m. on weekends, featuring everything from jazz to big band tunes.

Our inspiration comes from the rich history and charm of Old Town Toronto. The Berczy is named after Berczy Park which in turn is named after William Berczy, a founder of the city and which gives the restaurant a sense of place in the city,” Teolis says.

As for the menu, expect dishes that blend flavours from the South of France, Northern Italy, and Spain with contemporary North American cuisine. Think truffle risotto, rack of lamb and steak frites. The drinks? Over 50 wine labels, a selection of international beers and a dedicated whiskey nook.

The Berczy is located at 69 Front Street East. Lunch and brunch service will be announced in the coming weeks.
