What are the new fashion trends I should be looking out for this spring?
Be on the lookout for utilitarian or military looks in anything from safari jackets to cargo pants.
The 1940s have also had a renaissance: think of the bold shoulder pads and matched suits worn by Lauren Bacall in the movies.
Tucks, gathers and soft ruffles are everywhere: on the neckline of dresses, as a jacket detail, and in linen and silk blouses. You’ll also see lots of shorter skirts being worn this spring, from just above the knee to shorter.
Should I go with a floral print or solid colour spring dress?
For spring/summer 2010, I love the look of dresses cut in simple silhouettes. These minimally styled dresses look newest and best in solid colours.
Last fall I was seeing a motorcycle jacket trend. Now I’m seeing a military jacket trend. Is there an age cutoff for wearing these?
I believe in dressing "age appropriate" but I don’t associate a number with it. It comes down to your own personal style and level of confidence. Both these trends are now considered classic shapes in fashion and can be worn at any age.
