EVEN THOUGH HE lost his recent match against Rafael Nadal at the Japan Open, Milos Raonic won his opponent’s respect. He held his own, losing 6-4, 6-4 to the world’s top player.
Following a Davis Cup victory, Thornhill’s tennis star has continued to enjoy success this fall, rising to become Canada’s highest-ranked male singles player.
Hatem McDadi, vice president of tennis development for Tennis Canada, said that it has been exciting to watch the young player progress.
“It’s been incredible for Canadian tennis,” he said.
Raonic will be rounding out the year on the ATP tour playing in Valencia and Paris before a short break and off-season training. He’ll start next year down under, with his sights set on qualifying for the Australian Open.
McDadi remarked that Raonic has serious potential to become Canada’s highest-ranked tennis player ever.
“He has such a big game that he can play with the best in the world, with his serve and his power,” he said.
