This is a weekend filled with pride: gay pride, Canadian pride, and horse racing pride. So if you’ve decided to ditch cottage country and stay in Toronto, check out PostCity.com’s list of the five best bets this long weekend.
Canada Day Fireworks
The fireworks show at Mel Lastman Square won’t start till 10:15 p.m. but bring the family early to enjoy a variety of fun activities including a meet-and-greet with Olympic athletes, live music and a charity BBQ.
Mel Lastman Square 5100 Yonge St., 5:00pm, Free admission
(Of course, you can also catch Canada Day Fireworks at Downsview Park, Ontario Place, Canada’s Wonderland, or Ashbridge’s Bay)
CHIN Picnic 2010
The Italians may be out of the World Cup but you can be sure that won’t dampen the party at this three-day festival. Enjoy the beer garden, bazaar and, of course, the bikini contest.
Canadian National Exhibition July 1, 3, 4
TD Toronto Jazz Festival
If you couldn’t make it last weekend with all of the G20 drama in the city, get out and enjoy the city’s largest music festival. This Saturday catch Lost Fingers, Chaka Khan and Macy Gray on stage at Yonge-Dundas Square.
Yonge-Dundas Square, 6 p.m.
Gay Pride Parade
Can you believe it’s been 30 years? No doubt, this will be the biggest and best pride parade yet. Join together with Toronto’s LGBTTIQQ2SA communities and show your support this Sunday.
Parade starts 2 p.m. at Bloor & Church
Queen’s Plate
Head over to the Woodbine Racetrack and take in North America’s oldest thoroughbred horse race. You’ll be in good company as Queen Elizabeth is scheduled to attend the big race during her stop in Toronto.
Woodbine Racetrack, Sunday, July 4th, 4:30 p.m.
