Halloween is slowly creeping up, and to help Torontonians celebrate, a vintage bar in the West Queen West neighbourhood will be transformed into the spooky Black Lagoon Halloween-themed pop-up next month.
The Black Lagoon — a renowned pop-up cocktail experience that offers spine-chilling, immersive fun— is expanding to 35 markets this year throughout North America, and will return to Toronto’s Bar Mordecai for the last two weeks of October!
This immersive experience was launched in Toronto in October 2021 by entrepreneurs Kelsey Ramage and Erin Hayes, and the two couldn’t be more thrilled that the annual event is returning to the city.
“Y’all Toronto was our very first city! We couldn’t be more stoked to be passing the [broom] over to @barmordecai,” the duo said in a recent Instagram post. “They killed decor and of course drinks last year and we heard they’re going bigger and better than ever this October!”

The experience is inspired by all-things goth-metal and cult horror, so the elements of the space (and drinks) will pay homage to the nightmarish (yet somewhat playful) elements of Halloween. Guests are encouraged to show up in costume and enjoy innovative and deliciously spooky cocktails! Bonus: Each venue (including Bar Mordecai) will be hosting “Emo Nights” on Wednesdays.
This year, patrons can sip on cocktails such as Nosferatu’s Rise (made of Coconut Oil Lot 40, Lustau Amontillado Sherry, Cinnamon Syrup, Bitter Queens Caribbean Bitters, and Saline), Hex Appeal (made of Fords Gin, Honeydew Cordial, Lustau Vermut Dry, Lemon Juice, Seltzer, Saline, Absinthe, and Chlorophyll), and Memento Mori (a spooky yet delicious blend of Mezcal Union, Mr. Black Coffee Liqueur, Cruzan Blackstrap Rum, Cold Brew Concentrate, Giffard Banane, Lustau Amontillado, Saline, and Bitter Queens Chinese 5 Spice).
The Black Lagoon experience will take place from Oct.16 to 31 at Bar Mordecai, 1272 Dundas St W. Click here for the full list of venues operating Black Lagoon pop-ups this October.
