The Real Jerk is reopening — apparently for real this time

Fans of longstanding Jamaican spot The Real Jerk were outraged last year when landlords evicted the business seemingly out of the blue. But The Real Jerk’s team vowed to come back, and it looked like they would be setting up shop at a new condo nearby until residents got flustered about the liquor licence application. Now the restaurant has secured a new location, and it’s apparently ready to open soon.

Owner Ed Pottinger told Global News that he’s found a new home for his business at Gerrard and Carlaw. Video footage shows that the new location will be taking over the former site of The Playpen at 842 Gerrard St. E., which was a relatively short-lived venture from veteran restaurateur Johnny K (who wasn’t immediately available for comment).

Global reports that the majority of staff will be returning, and that if all goes well, the new Real Jerk could be open in less than three weeks.
