The flagship Lick’s location in the Beach is being replaced by — wait for it — a condo building

The longstanding Lick’s hamburger joint in the Beach is closing in order to make way for a six-storey condo project, but the restaurant is planning to open a new location in the area. The iconic restaurant will flip its last burger on Oct. 31, and to celebrate the long haul, Homeburgers and Nature Burgers will go on sale for 25 cents apiece (on that day and at that location only).

Earlier this year, The Star reported that the condo project that’s replacing Lick’s received a unanimous vote from community council, despite opposition from locals.

According to the restaurant’s Facebook page, a new Lick’s location for the Beach is pending (Reddit rumours point to Lion on the Beach site nearby, but staff at that venue say that’s not the case).
