The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) unveiled their new Toronto Sceptres logo yesterday…and fans have noted that it looks somewhat familiar to a logo Taylor Swift bore in one of her videos a decade ago.
The emblem combines the initials “T” and “S” to represent Toronto Sceptres, with a sceptre motif to evoke power, reflecting the team’s identity and spirit.
“The beveled edges add a sense of depth and solidity, enhancing its regal quality and imbuing it with a tangible, prestigious feel, evoking the team’s name and image,” the Sceptres noted in a statement. “The colour palette, centred around a rich royal blue, features accents of yellow and orange, bringing warmth and vitality to the scheme.”

Still, a few Swifties have pointed out the uncanny resemblance between the monogram and the logo Swift wore on her cheer uniform in her “Shake it Off” music video (both combine the initials “T” and “S”).
“Y’all I think that logo is already taken,” one X user stated. Another joked that “Taylor Swift would like a word”.

Despite the “controversy”, Torontonians seem pumped about their new team! The Sceptres is one of six teams in the newly launched PWHL, with the Coca-Cola Coliseum serving as the team’s primary home venue for regular-season games throughout the 2024-25 campaign.
The PWHL, founded in 2023, began its inaugural season in January of this year and features the best women’s hockey players across the globe.
Apart from the Toronto Sceptres, the PWHL unveiled five other new team identities yesterday: the Boston Fleet, Minnesota Frost, Montréal Victoire, New York Sirens, and Ottawa Charge.
“Our teams were so proud to represent their home markets last season, and as we launch Season Two, we’re elevating that pride with new identities that truly embody the spirit of each club,” Jayna Hefford, PWHL Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations, said in a statement. “These new names and logos capture the dynamic energy of our athletes and enhance our teams’ presence in their cities, building a stronger foundation for the future of our league.”
The popularity of professional women’s sports seems to be growing in Canada. In addition to the Sceptres, Torontonians will also be looking out for its new WNBA team, which will begin playing in the 2026 season (with home games also played at the Coca-Cola Coliseum).
