If your Thanksgiving weekend plans are looking a little lacklustre this year without the usual big family gatherings, there’s a new market coming to the GTA that might be able to partly fill the void (at least where food is concerned).
Beginning this Saturday, Street Eats Market is launching a week-long outdoor market at Hillcrest Mall in Richmond Hill. The brand has hosted numerous physically-distanced food festivals over the past few months, including events focused on ice cream and Filipino cuisine. Â
This weekend’s food market will mark Street Eats’ longest festival yet. The Basil Box, Bosco, Food From East, the Cuban Thing, and the Smoke Stop are among the confirmed participants so far.Â

The market set-up allows diners to place and pick-up orders without leaving their vehicles. Diners simply park in a numbered spot in the curbside pick-up area, put their order in online via the Street Eats Market site, and then wait for the food to be brought to their car.Â
Street Eats has been organizing these events with the pandemic in mind. In addition to this minimal contact pick-up system, staff will be wearing PPE and floor markings will guide walk-up diners in maintaining the recommended physical distance.Â
According to a press release, Street Eats plans to expand its market concept to other cities in the coming months. Another event is already set to take place in Oshawa in late October. The Richmond Hill market kicks off Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. and will run until 7 p.m. from Monday to Saturday and until 6 p.m. on Sundays.Â
