Our standard Halloween parties and plans may be cancelled this year, but one Toronto restaurant is making sure we don’t have to miss out on the spookiest season of the year completely.
Sky Flower, which first launched as a summer rooftop popup, is changing its game and transitioning to fall with a heated patio, a refreshed menu and a playful Halloween theme.
Dubbed the “Moonlight Tower,” the new iteration of Sky Flower sees glowing red lighting illuminating a newly scary-themed space decorated with faux cobwebs, skulls, bats and crows. A tongue-in-cheek soundtrack featuring tunes like Eminem’s “The Monster” and Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me” further sets the Halloween mood.
Sky Flower’s signature floral accents and floor-to-ceiling wood decor remain, creating a Halloween like atmosphere that’s on theme but without leaving you feeling like you’ve stumbled into a campy haunted house.
Cocktails like Boo, which features an image of the Mario franchise’s ghost enemy stencilled into its egg white finish, continue the subtly spooky motif. The food menu is curated by Eric Chong, the first MasterChef Canada winner and chef at R&D restaurant. Instead of the previous à la carte model, the menu now focuses on three-course prix-fixe dinners ($49), which include the option to add on additional bites.

Chong’s focus on Asian-inspired flavours remains unchanged, with the menu featuring dishes like grilled ribeye with Singaporean black pepper sauce and charred broccolini with togarashi, spicy sesame aioli and cured egg yolk.
The Berkshire pork chop, which Chong describes as pork’s answer to wagyu beef, is a particular stand-out. Like wagyu, Berkshire pork is known for its juiciness, flavour and marbling. Chong serves it with a char siu marinade, foie gras ganache and a ginger scallion relish.

Desserts include the boozy piña colada, a riff on its cocktail namesake featuring Bacardi Black-infused pineapple spiralled around a bed of Malibu ice cream, macadamia nut sand and spiced rum caramel.
Sky Flower has installed powerful overhead heaters and a tent for added warmth and protection against rain. With indoor dining temporarily shutdown in Toronto, it’s about as close as you can get to dining inside while still respecting COVID-related restrictions.
With this all-season tent and heating system in place, Sky Flower plans to continue its pop-up through the winter with a new winter wonderland theme reportedly in the works to replace the Moonlight Tower in November.
Sky Flower’s Moonlight Tower is open Monday to Friday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Reservations can be booked online.
