Earlier this month, Rosedale’s Drake General Store relocated to Yonge and Eglinton. The reason for the move? Simple: the new location offers more retail space than either of the other two stores.
At around 900 square feet, the new shop is spacious, and it carries the same quirky curiosities that the Drake General Store is known for. Think of it as a gift shop for the more mature set, sans the low-end kitsch that tourist souvenir shops typically carry.
As with the Queen West and Bathurst iterations of The Drake Hotel’s retail chain, this store’s interior is a harmonious hodgepodge of different styles. The store’s floors are made of Spanish hardwood, with four sections of Moroccan tiles that create the illusion of area rugs.
The built-ins and the jewellery case were commissioned (and customized) for this location, while the housewares are showcased on a vintage Mastercraft display from the ’70s.
Among the goods are men’s and women’s clothing — such as button-ups, T-shirts and sweaters — by unisex brands Penfield, Cheap Monday and Drake’s in-house brand, Shared.
There are also accessories, such as men’s Casio watches and Maxx & Unicorn wallets, or women’s necklaces and bracelets by New York’s Erica Weiner and Canadian brands Biko and Jenny Bird.
Rounding out the products are cards, toiletries, skin care products, blankets, jackets and bags. Looking for a quirkier present than your typical Father’s Day tie? This is the place to find that tongue-in-cheek book or laugh-out-loud greeting card.
Though the store has only been open since May 3, we expect it to become a go-to spot in the neighbourhood.
