Rumour mill: David Chang possibly headed to Toronto’s Shangri-La

New York’s celebrated culinary master David Chang, chef and owner of the popular Momofuku restaurant group, including the Michelin-starred Momofuku Ko, may be coming to Toronto. The Twitterverse was rife with rumours this morning, ignited by a forum posting that claimed Toronto’s upcoming Shangri-La Hotel had “landed” David Chang. This morning, Chang tweeted the following cryptic, though optimism-inducing, message: “hello southern ontario … late late 2012ish?”

What’s interesting about the tweet is that Shangri-La, an upcoming hotel with condominiums and at least one restaurant, is set to open in the second quarter of 2012. We tried getting in touch with Shangri-La’s PR this morning and are waiting on a call back. In the meantime, the Star’s Corey Mintz probably summed up the impending media blitz best: “Prediction: we all get on phone with Shangri La PR today. No confirmation of David Chang rumour until Monday,” he tweeted.

We’ll be sure to update once we find out more. The prospect is exciting for Toronto food-types, so let the finger-crossing ensue.

UPDATE: two Momofuku restaurants are coming to Toronto
