Rosedale resident Eugene Levy was recently invested into the Order of Canada at a Rideau Hall ceremony. Levy is among 39 recipients recognized for their exceptional achievements and commitment to their communities. Beginning as a Second City comic, he went on to appear in more than 50 films, including National Lampoon’s Vacation and the more recent American Pie series.
In a press release, the Governor General’s office said Levy was recognized for his exceptional work as an actor, director, writer and producer, as well as his contributions to the country.
“He is still in touch with his Canadian roots as a mentor of Humber College’s comedy students, and through his engagement with such organizations as Shalom Village, in Hamilton; the Autism Society; and the National Arts Centre Orchestra,” said the release.
Fellow Order of Canada recipients from Toronto include soprano Mary Lou Fallis and novelist Nino Ricci.
“I’m really so impressed and in awe being here today, actually wearing my medal, that words kind of escape me right now,” the usually never-at-a-loss-for-words Levy said of the honour.
