Roots launches collab with outdoorsy Hong Kong streetwear brand CLOT

Iconic Toronto brand Roots is announcing a new collaboration with Hong Kong-based streetwear brand CLOT. This partnership marks a fusion of Canadian and Hong Kong aesthetics, celebrating Roots’ 50th anniversary and CLOT’s 20th anniversary. The first collection, named Go Outside: You’ll Be Glad is launching on Nov. 10 in Canada and Nov. 11 in Asia, followed by a second collection on Jan. 13 in line with the Lunar New Year.

“The Go Outside, You’ll be Glad collection is not just a fashion statement; it is a shared manifesto to reconnect with nature and the vibrant pulse of city life,” said Meghan Roach, Roots CEO. “We are proud to blend Roots commitment to quality, comfort, and style with CLOT’s innovative spirit, bringing to life a collection that encourages everyone, everywhere, to step outside and revel in the world’s beauty.”

Co-designed by CLOT’s Founder and Creative Director, Edison Chen, the Go Outside: You’ll Be Glad collection is said to emphasize high-quality embroidery and craftsmanship. It aims to inspire individuals to connect with their surroundings amidst the chaos of daily life, symbolizing the accessibility of the outdoors, whether in the scenic landscapes of Canada or the bustling streets of Hong Kong.

“The LNY collection was inspired by the Year of the Dragon: Dragons are fearless and in the endless pursuit of achieving their goals. Dragon imagery is featured prominently throughout the collection with pops of red and gold, a physical manifestation of good fortune for the new year ahead,” said Chen.

The campaign, shot in Chen’s hometown of Vancouver, features classic street style photography against the backdrop of meadows, lakes, and mountainous terrain. It encourages wearers to “Go Outside” and reconnect with nature.

The gender-free Go Outside: You’ll Be Glad collection includes wardrobe staples like Leather Varsity Jackets, Crewnecks, Kanga Hoodies, and Track Pants, with prices ranging from $18 to $1,398 CAD. The second collection, Lunar New Year, draws inspiration from the Year of the Dragon, featuring fleece, tees, and accessories with dragon imagery, red and gold accents symbolizing good fortune.

Established in 1973 in Toronto, Ontario, by Michael Budman and Don Green, the company Roots underwent a change in ownership in 2015. It was acquired by Searchlight Capital Partners LP, an American investment firm. The company’s design centre and leather factory are still located in Toronto.

The brand is best-known for its iconic beaver logo.
