Viaggio
Toronto, ON M6K 1V4
Inspired by tours through Italy, owners Jon Vettraino and Jason Romanoff, of the now closed the Commodore, have invited us on a journey to Italy at Viaggio, meaning "way" or "journey." This pretty and minimalistic spot is using modern Canadian techniques and ingredients and incorporating them into traditional Italian fare. The cosy interior furnished with brown leather booths and modern light fixtures is warm and inviting. The restaurant pays homage to the old country with its rustic vibe and imagery of Italian scopa playing cards. The menu features a seasonal mix of classics like Sicilian caponata and vitello tonnato along with some new creations, like the 'nduja and bone marrow Mafaldine. The cocktail bar is just as inciting as the (late, great) Commodore with features like the No Good at Dancing that might even encourage a little late night boogie.
