The Dock Ellis
Toronto, ON M6J 1X7
Restaurant Categories
The Dock Ellis is a well-established bar-slash-eatery in the west end. Upon entry, patrons may believe they've stumbled into their grandmother's living room, but after a second glance, the communal tables, roster of TVs and '90s hip hop playing overhead should quickly quell any such suspicions. In the back, foosball, pinball and pool are all possible activities for those not content with a simple sit. Although the decor may be a touch haphazard, the cuisine is not. The concise but unbelievably delicious selection of sandwiches — just three — rotates frequently to keep things interesting. The mushroom melt ($10, including tax) is a vegetarian take on the tuna classic. Rosemary-studded focaccia hugs a comforting medley of sautéed button 'shrooms, pickled shallots and gooey Swiss cheese. A dill pickle wedge and house-made potato chips (of both the regular and sweet variants) accompany the sandwich. Get this puppy quick before it rotates off the menu.
