About the Restaurant

Donโ€™t be deterred by its location: Schnitzel Queen has the best schnitzel in town. A Corktown staple, the teeny tiny eatery is known for its hulking schnitzel sandwiches. Owned by Bernard Untergasser and Teresa Milczarczyk (sheโ€™s Polish; heโ€™s German), the space is outfitted with five stools and is only open for lunch, meaning that you best be prepared to wait. The lively Teresa, however, wonโ€™t let the boredom set in: sheโ€™ll eagerly regale visitors with the screenplay-worthy tale of how she and Bernard met (hint: it involves a holiday, an airport kiss and months of letters requiring translation). Stepping far outside the boundaries of its nine-grain bun, the pork schnitzel ($7 to $10) โ€” or chicken, should you desire โ€”can be gussied up with any variety of fixings. Laid over some fresh greens, our schnitzel was topped with some fried hunks of onion and bacon. A slathering of mayo added the final touch. So go in and get schnit-faced; trust us, it's encouraged.
