Near the bustling Yonge and Eglinton intersection, Sake Bar Kushi is an authentic Japanese restaurant that turns wining and dining into a full-on experience. The first thing that happens upon entering is the staff yelling out a customary welcome greeting in Japanese. Once that’s over, you can marvel at the black walls with white drawings, complete with red lights to create a warm yet sophisticated space. Per its name, this joint specializes in “kushi,” the Japanese kebab equivalent. Japanese-style skewers are grilled over charcoal and are available with meat, vegetables, tofu and seafood. There’s a ton of variety to choose from. Of course, there are also the staples of Japanese cuisine, including maki rolls, teriyaki treated meats and fish and karaage. Boasting 30 different kinds of Japanese sake, a bar, booth seating and a zashiki (a Japanese traditional-style large room where shoes are removed), both small and large groups can have a good time.
