Sababa
Thornhill, ON L4J 1A1
With over 300 Middle Eastern restaurants in the GTA, it's pretty tricky to find the most authentic ones, but Sababa is the real deal. When owner Sam Azar opened Sababa in 1987, there were only 40 seats and one employee, and now, over 20 years later, there are over 120 seats and a full operating bakery where Azar and his staff are making fresh pitas every day. Sitting in a strip mall off Highway 7, this Middle Eastern restaurant is a causal dining spot and meeting ground for the neighbourhood's Jewish and Middle Eastern community. The menu is full of favourites, like the perfect falafel balls, award-winning lentil soup and all the dips you could ever dream of. Sababa's hummus is wonderfully garlicky and the baba ghanouj is so creamy you'll want to order some extra to take home with you.
