Parallel is a Middle Eastern eatery located on the industrial Geary Avenue, which has emerged as somewhat of a destination restaurant row in what is otherwise an industrial strip. The restaurant comes from the same family behind Ozery Bakery, famed for their Morning Rounds and Lavash products that can be found at your local grocers.
The focal point of the restaurant towards the rear is a heritage stone mill that cranks out smooth and creamy tahini (think peanut butter but made with sesame seeds sourced from Humera, Ethiopia). This rare luxury is the star ingredient in many of Parallel’s dishes, including its three varieties of hummus. The Parallel Salad, a mountain of kale, sweet potato, black lentils and goat cheese topped with Parallel's signature beet tahini, is as delicious as it is colourful, with a contrast of creamy and crunchy textures.
If by the end of your meal you haven’t had enough Tahini-based dishes, their halva – a dense, nougatty confection made with a cane sugar and tahini base – is offered a variety of flavours like pistachio, matcha, coconut and chocolate.
