Ivan Reitman’s Montecito is a 12,000-square-foot, 280-seat restaurant coincidentally a stone’s throw from the home base of the Toronto International Film Festival. Reitman is known for directing classic comedies, such as Ghostbusters and Stripes, but also for his ventures as a restaurateur with Montecito only seconds from Reitman Square. A coincidence, we’re sure. Executive chef Matt Robertson’s menu changes daily and highlights seasonal ingredients and Canadian produce, such as grass-fed beef, organic Mennonite-raised chicken, local cheese and shellfish from the Maritimes. Montecito is named for the California real estate mecca (which is also the namesake of Reitman’s production company) and is a partnership with renowned chef Jonathan Waxman and Innov8 Hospitality. Montecito has an airy vibe, true to its California namesake, and offers an elegant dining experience throughout its two storeys, lounge section and patio — which can accommodate parties from eight to 400.
