La Salumeria is midtown’s go-to deli, and has been in operation since 1984. It’s got everything a good deli should have, from a homey, neighbourhood feel to a huge curation of Italian goods to an extensive cheese, bread and meat selection, and many employees that have been there for years. It also has no online presence, so it’s truly a midtown gem that has gained fame through word of mouth. The secret gem inside La Salumeria, though, is something truly Italian: guests are invited to grab any sandwich bun from the store and bring it to the back, where sandwich masters stuff it with fresh ingredients and cheeses and turn it into a work of lunchtime art. And, if you’re looking for something outside of your usual selections, owner Carlo Celebre is usually around to make a flavourful suggestion.
