Karaikudi
Scarborough, ON M1P 4Y1
Situated in the middle of the furniture district on Kennedy Road, Karaikudi has gained a lot of attention for its authentic south Indian dishes. The restaurant’s decor is typical of many other Indian or Sri Lankan restaurants in Scarborough — a large space that doubles as a banquet facility, adorned with vibrant colours and carved woodwork. One of the major perks of the menu here is the consistency in the quality of the food, particularly the dishes served during the daily lunch buffet ($9.99 every day except holidays). The buffet offers a tasty introduction to the varying regional dishes of south India — from thali to a variety of curries and rice dishes. It’s vegetarian-friendly, cheap and wonderfully tasty. À la carte is equally impressive. The menu is full of classics like the sukka mutton ($10.99), a dry meat dish where the juices have been reduced so that spices cling to each piece of meat, punctuating each bite with flavour and texture.
