A quick ferry ride from the mainland, Ward’s Island is home to the Island Cafe, a charming family-run eatery that got its start years ago as a concession stand. Now a veritable restaurant, the joint is a hotbed of activity, with islanders and visitors alike chowing down and enjoying live music in a pretty garden setting. Our pick is, fittingly, the Garden Goddess burger, which is available in both carnivore- and herbivore- friendly versions. The veggie pick is comprised of a thick patty studded with tofu, barley, beets, almonds, sunflower seeds and more. Homemade garden pesto, goat cheese and sun-dried tomatoes top the burger off, with a generous serving of home fries and the house slaw finishing off the meal. It’s the perfect end to a summer’s day on the sand.
