After nearly 40 years, renowned uptown sandwich shop The Belly Buster Submarines expanded with a second location last month. Brothers Jian and Page Magen (of Magen Boys Entertainment) and Michael Kimel (of MJK Capital) collaborated with the founder of the brand, Christopher Passilidis, to bring Belly Buster subs to 389 King St. W.
Expect to see a menu full of the same subs that have been made for decades at the original restaurant near Yonge and York Mills, including turkey bacon, meatball, cheese steak, chicken and — of course — the classic “Belly Buster” (cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, hot peppers, salami, roast beef, mushrooms and gravy). New to the King Street location is the addition of salads, which will hit the menu soon for those less keen on actually busting their bellies.
The new 600-square-foot space seats 16 people and features a front patio. The shop’s walls are lined with red and yellow paint, while bright yellow ceiling lights hang over the inside tables. Keeping true to its roots, the new restaurant has a wall of Polaroid photos to show off “the faces of the satisfied.”
And it looks like The Belly Buster Submarines is expanding more than just waistlines. Owners hope to open more locations soon: in Thornhill, the Annex, London, Ont. and more.
