Duo patisserie is a chic Markham bakery that specializes in viennoiseries, cakes and chocolates. It is a French-inspired cafe with a Japanese flare. The must-try item here is the croissant which comes in the traditional form, as well as pain au chocolat, almond, chocolate almond, roast beef, ham and cheese, salami and cheese, and a polonaise which is a double-baked croissant with hazelnuts and rum. There is also a selection of whole or single cakes that are exquisitely decorated — so pretty that you’ll feel guilty biting into them. Though some of the cakes come in traditional flavours such as black forest or lemon tart, they are far from the run-of-the-mill cakes you’re imagining. There are also travel cakes (or pound cakes) on offer in flavours such as matcha, chestnut, fruit, maple apple, chocolate, pecan, citrus and raspberry pistachio. Naturally, you’ll need a drink to wash down all of that deliciousness, and they’ve got you covered with coffee, tea, espresso, various flavours of lattes and even a ginger lemonade. Once you’re done you can top off your delectable little meal with a bon bon. Get a dozen to go and sample each of their flavours: venezuela, banana almond, coconut lime, blueberry cassis, vanilla caramel, lemon mint, Japanese whiskey, matcha, berry tea, hibiki pecan, raspberry rose and grapefruit.
